Five species of sea turtles occur in the coast of Mozambique green, hawksbill, olive ridley, loggerhead and leatherback.

The poacher hunt of these animals captured at sea or at the spawning beaches, and the egg steal, are most common even today.

On the other hand the knowledge of the biologic aspects of sea turtles in Mozambique such as places where they occur, feeding and nesting areas are scarce, which difficults the establishing of priorities of conservation and protection actions for these species. However the number of areas covered by organizations as well as the consolidation of the work in some of those areas is increasing.
